Inspiration: Another commission. This was one of those costumes which seem ridiculously simple at first but which turn out to be a lot tricker to make than you initially thought it would. But it was a lot of fun to do.
Favorite Aspect: Definitely the jacket. It's made from a red suede-like material which I lined with red satin. Was a bee-yotch to sew but it ended up turning out really nice (once I figured out which way the shoulder pads were supposed to go. Oya.)
Least Favorite Aspect: Cutting out the pattern for the dress. I used my patternmaking software for this one, which is a real convenience as far as creating decent-fitting patterns are concerned, except for the fact that I have to run the patterns off on my printer (which only prints out in 8-1/2 x 11 sheets. So to make the pattern full size, I must print said pattern out on dozens of sheets and cut and tape them together. A real hassle, especially if the pattern happens to be that of a long garment like a sundress.) But once that part was over, the rest of the project was fun.
Easiest Task: Making the materia (which consisted of gluing a loop of elastic to a green plastic Christmas tree ornament. Simplicity itself.)
Hardest Task: The jacket, as suede is hard to work with. (It doesn't rank as high on the pain scale as velvet, but still, it's a bummer to sew.)
