Hyuuga Neji (Jounin) Cosplay

Category: Anime

Completed: 100%

Cost: $ US100

Hours to Make: 10-20

First worn at: A-Kon 17

Inspiration: I was originally going to go as Haku to A-Kon 17. But after reading further into the Naruto series I began taking a liking to Neji... the way his character develops was really interesting to me... and he's got the "awesome doujutsu" and "bishounen" thing going for him as well. And then when I saw his timeskip outfit, I was like "Whoa, I could totally cosplay that." It eneded up being a much better choice than Haku, because A) everyone and their mom has cosplayed Haku, and B) apparently I look a lot like Neji... or so people told me.

Favorite Aspect: The outfit is really comfortable, especially given that the con was happening in Texas during the summer. It's mostly white and made of cotton, so I didn't get too hot. And people seemed to like my contacts.

Least Favorite Aspect: The wig. On Friday I had to wear it without a wig cap and it felt like it was going to fall off at any moment... it never did, but there were a few incidents (i.e: the surprise-glompings) when I was afraid it would. And the headband kept sliding down my forehead.

Easiest Task: The materials were easy to come by: Wal-Mart, eBay, and Amphigory had everything I needed.

Hardest Task: Again, the wig. Putting it on with the headband took at least twenty minutes on both days, and on Friday I had to put it on in the bathroom with only my friend's help. On Saturday I was able to put it on at home with help from my mom, and the added assistance of a wig cap and some bobby pins, and it was much more secure... but it still took a long time.

Like my Jan costume, I comissioned this from my friend's mom, because she can sew and I can't. The outfit is made from hospital scrubs that I bought at Wal-Mart (which she altered into the shirt, tunic-thing, and bag... the pants stayed as they were.) I bought the sandals, pouch, and headband on eBay, and the wig from Amphigory.com. I bought the contacts from some website, but they weren't actually full white; I just Photoshopped my pupils away.
