Inspiration: This is a great show for cosplaying and I needed a simple first costume I could learn to use a sewing machine on. Yoh-dono is always so carefree, so I thought I'd try to emulate that.
Favorite Aspect: I sewed 90% of it myself and Yoh's tournament arm communicator is actually my t-mobile sidekick internet phone. I think this is my most accurate costume to date.
Least Favorite Aspect: Having to spray like 20 coats of orange paint on the cordless headphones. They still don't look finished.
Easiest Task: Making the shorts. I wanted to make sure the material matched. They have pockets too. Another relatively easy thing was the embroidery on the back. I asked the good folks at alt.binaries.multimedia.anime.raw to translate it for me and then I converted the characters to a bitmap that the local embroidery shop could import. It cost $16 and was well worth it. BTW, it says Funbari Onsen which means to stand firm on the hot springs.
Hardest Task: Cleaning the orange overspray dust off the bathroom floor and walls. It was like scraping Cheetos dust off your fingers, only it didn't taste good. >.< Another hard task was convincing my lovely wife to make the wig. I serged the skull cap, and she cut and glued the craft foam into place. Goofy anime hair - I love it.
