Inspiration: I discovered Serenity when my friend first got me to watch it back in 2006. I had been told that Firefly was the series that came before the film, but I didn't get around to watching it until 2011. I instantly fell in love. Kaylee and I have very similar personalities and I love her style, so cosplaying as her was an easy choice. I never have to worry about slipping out of character or trying to come up with a way that she would pose. It just comes naturally.
Favorite Aspect: I love everything about this costume. I also am really happy that I decided to branch out a little and do an interpretation of her Serenity coveralls, instead of the teddy bear ones that are the most popular. Adding the belt and belt pouch also turned out to be the best idea ever. When originally modifying the coveralls, I had to remove all the pockets, which made it difficult to carrying anything during a convention. The belt pouch is the perfect place to store my wallet and phone.
Least Favorite Aspect: Nothing. I love this costume. It may not be an exact replica of a screen-used costume (although she does have several versions of coveralls, shirts, etc).
Easiest Task: Finding a shirt. I just have to look at something and think "would Kaylee wear this?". I also already owned the boots, so that was pretty simple as well.
Hardest Task: Re-fitting the jumpsuit. It started out as a Mens medium. I had to make massive alterations in order to get it to fit properly. Then I went and lost 40 lbs and had to resize it all over again.
